  1. hi
I just started out converting to vcd..
but seem to have a problem with play back on 3 diffrent players -standalone
    I have tried my Rca
    RCA RC5220P, with no luck,
tried the disk on a toshiba as well as a Sharp 600 i belive with of course no luck..

does it make a diffrent on using ver 1.0 or 2.0 for these Players..
I have tried several programs like vcd, tscv, unlead dvd movie factory..
and a few others as well menotoned in the
Sefys All-In-One newbie DVD Ripping guide
and the other guides The newbies guide to fitting a movie on one CD using TMPGEnc..

not having luck at all as far as playback although the disks seem to work with win dvd or will play using media player but not on any of my dvd standalones -sigh

almost tempting to just burn them to the disks and use my system that has myATI all in wounder video card to export them to a VCR -which is compatiable with almost everyone lol

    thanks
    Joanne

  2. Well, to be sure it's not what you created, I suggest you first try a known DVD that can play, such as Apex or Pioneer who have high compatibility.

Can you tell us step-by-step what YOU did, and with which programs, i've not had people yet tell me they failed using my guide, so i'm curious

    My first steps for spykids
    DVD Copying
    1. used DVD DVD Decryptor -worked like it should have..
    -no problem here
    2.Frame Serving
    Used DVD2AVI v1.76/1.85 -no problem
except no sound when previewing the file so thought ok must of messed up somewhere...
Just had to figure out the audio stuff -so took a while but got it
    3 . Encoding
used TMPGEnc Followed the quide to the specs except the pal stuff..
than went to encode but after the computer said 14 hrs
computer info probably would be good here ...
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    pentuim 4 dual 550 mhz
    512 meg
6 gig drive 17 gig drive and a gig drive..
    hp 9100 cd writter
    and a dvd drive
running windows 2000 server -yes its a web server computer - serves web sites as well as hosts a few domians.
networked to a secondary system used as secondary dns as well as other stuff since its not required to be serving
its considerd a backup machine ..
    its a pentuim 3 750mhz
    768 meg
    3 gig drive
    30 gig drive
no dvd player , havent figured out how to let this machine use the other DVD player since win dvd has a fit over no dvd valid drive
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ok i said to my self
and since it wasnt explained about how the program would cut the
audio and re sync it back on the second disk got worried i may be doing something wrong
and of course like most say never look ahead of the lesson well I did and got really confused by chaptering and since I have nti cd maker pro it dosnt seem to see bin/cue files ..
think i need to try something smaller before i do a two disk job

So I stoped doing the spykids and Changed my project to MeatLoaf
Steps For MeatLoaf -hits out of hell
DVD disk time is 58 mins and figured ok that sound be a good starter project to get the feel of things ...
    Thanks to the first guide
Sefy's Ultimate Newbie DVD Conversion Guide v2.0
I had almost all the tools and info I needed for
The newbies guide to fitting a movie on one CD using TMPGEnc by newgen
just missing one of his tools CladDVD XP 1.3. even though I had DVD Decryptor
I wanted to follow the guide as closely as possiable as the person who wrote it explained
just like the 1st guide I used ...
Well took me some time to get my hands on CladDVD XP 1.3. but got it ..
I liked the fact it would handle the DVD2AVI and i didnt have to mess with that thing again so kewl a program that made at least that part a little more easier ..
Well when the file was done I loaded up TMPGEnc followed his directions incluing unlock template -nice work
I would have never know that was there lol
well one cd the bitrate was set for 1150
    other info MPEG-1 352x240 29.97fps CBR 1150kbps, Layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps
afer only 5 hrs the file was done used media player to check it out - nice video and audio ..
ok so had the file now and converted to mpeg ..
    file size was 571mb ...
Ok well needless to say I did skip the chapters and menus and went for the burn
used nti cd maker pro ..figured it would create what would be needed to run the cvd ..
    burned a cdr at 8 speed and a cdrw at 2 ...
done .. well needless to say it didnt work on ay of the players mentoned above ..
    except windvd ...
so next i used VCDeasy thinking ok must be the problem of maybe chapters and menus ..
so using ver 2.0 for vcd ...
got out chapter extracter opps when i ripped the file no .ifo file but thanks to newgen
guide i used my ripper to see whcih .ifo would be need for the raw data ..

ok with that imputed in used the burner program that came with VCDeasy cdrdaq..
again made 2 copys one cdr one cdw -no luck ..
by this time i was thinking about the vcr trick i mentoned earlier ..
but someone posted that they had luck with ulead movie factory ...
so got a copy and nice interface easy to use and creating chapters and menus isnt hard just takes time..
but the program allows you to go through the mpeg and selcet what you want to make chapter of and etc
Personally I like it was starting to finally have some fun ...
well needless to say got all the chateprs and menus done and burned again to cdr and cdrw with no luck playing on any of these standalone dvd players ..

--- so yes since media player can see the VCD ... to re record to VHS is beginning to look like a better idea since my personal computer which isnt on the network has a all in one wounder card...
this computer is a pentum 2 350 mhz -not networked yet
    6 gig drive
    and a 18 gig drive..
it main purpose is mp3 editing and radio station automation play lists ...
ati all in wounder card - never had a problem with this card
a video acclerator card made by bannsee or something like that
sound blaster awe gold card - sounds nice ..
    128 mg of ram
running windows 2000 advanced server ...
    ---------------------------------------------------------
well there is what i have tried so far ..
the only burning software i havent tried yet is nero but some say dont use it some say use it -humm
    thanks

oh tip : so far i found two DVD that can be copied directly to a vhs tape using the RCA dvd player

    hedwig and the angry inch
and meatloaf seems no macrovision is on these disks so hooking the dvd to vcr is possiable using line in and line out method ..
dosnt work for all dvd disks though but its worth palying around with to see how many more dvd disks that are open like this ...

the rca dvd player wont play a dvd very well if hooked up to the vcr in this manner if macrovision is present
but figured i would pass along that hint ...

so Sefy I dont think its your guide to blame I personaly think both yours and newgen guide are very well written
but maybe you may want to tell us how it knows if doidng a two disk .. how does it know where the audio will resync with the picture or do we do that manuly - or am i over thinking on this thing ??

  5. So that would be the same as if he buys that equipment, it still uses CDR's, so if it can't play regular PC made VCD's, it won't read those created by a VCD Recorder, therefor, money wasted.

Not to mention limited to only making VCD's, no variant and no SVCD and no nothing, just plain VCD.

I did get to look at one of those Apex Player AD-1100W machines the box said its Video: DVD, VCD, SVCD
Audio: CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, Kodak Picture CD (JPEG) when my girlfriend and i were out waiting for our movie to start Jason...
we went to walmart but i was hoping they would have had one hooked up for demo purposes yes i had my movie disks in hand lol
but to no advail none of the DVD players where hooked up -so it was up to box reading and so far this one looked decent and the price dosnt seem bad at this time 73.00 One of my friends payed more than that more than that for my RCA but I cant complain it was a bithday present ...
so I am very tempted on payday to get one of these machines...

who know it just may work after all
    thanks again for your help
