Virtualdub has just suddenly lost the ability to correctly play files that it had no problem playing before. There is something wrong with the first few frames of the video - the audio will be at the right speed, but the first second or so of the video will be playing at a much faster framerate, fast enough that it has to start over and repeat itself in order for the audio and video to catch up with eachother. It only effects the first second or so of the video but that's still enough to ruin the project I'm working on, and it's doing it on the exact same .avi files that were working correctly before

That file that played OK before. Have you trimmed some at the start ?

  3. Since this is your second "sudden mysterious slowdown" thread, I suspect basic computer issues -- an overactive background process; overheating; disk full; etc etc.

But you can experiment with the Sync to audio and Drop video frames when behind options.
