I am tossing up between buying the ADVC300 and ADVC100. I have a few commercial tapes that are copy protected, and have read that the TBC in the Canopus units can remove macrovision. Is the TBC in this unit a full frame TBC? What would you guys recommend i buy as i will be converting alot of VHS tapes to DVD. Some commercial tapes and some home recorded and i want the best quality captures.
What are the main benefits for me to choose the 300 over the 100?
    Thanks.

  4. The latest firmware upgrade for the advc300 removes macrovision , unofficially of course and once you've updated the firmware, you have to register on www.canopus.com to do this, follow this instruction: !

Hold the two adjustment button on the top of the unit. Not sure of the exact time length, but I think it is around 15 seconds. It worked for me. I hope it works out for you.

I think you have to do it each time you switch the unit on.

    Good luck

Iv'e also read that this ADVC-300 only records the signal in DV...as i am not to familiar with DV, does this have to be converted to mpeg2 afterwards? or am i completely wrong and does the canopus capture in Mpeg2 or Avi.

I believe that the Canopus unit will capture the signal in AVI DV-Compliant format. You will have to convert it to MPEG2 later.
