  1. As per my newb status in all things video editing, I'm wondering if those of you with a more robust knowledge and understanding of the various programs available would be able to point me in the right direction.

I'm searching for a video editor that would meet basic yet specific requirements. I did have a look through the software list on the site, but I'd like to narrow it down and ensure all needs are met with any one editing program. The basics are -

    MP4 compatible
    fade in/out transitions between clips
ability to remove any sound preexisting in video files
ability to add in new sound files as background track
    exporting
    free software
preferably streamlined and easy to use

    All relevant knowledge/input/suggestions is appreciated!

You wont find that many FREE good nle/advanced editors. You could start with WIndows Live Movie Maker. If it's too basic you have could move to VideoPad Video Editor.

Or try an open source free software like Shotcut, Kdenlive, OpenShot Video Editor. I have tried some of them and they are still kinda buggy.

And I guess you have checked https://www.videohelp.com/software/sections/video-editors-advanced?orderby=Type (ordered by free first)

    Or buy VideoStudio Pro...

  6. Thanks! Slowly getting acquainted with ShotCut.

There's a couple clips from YouTube that I'd like to use in a video, but I'm not able to download the videos with my current YouTube Media downloader. Is there any other program that could get around this?
