  1. hi. can anyone explain whats going on.
i`m trying to make a vcd from what i thought was an avi file. as it turns out when i open the mpeg file all i am left with is MPEGAV\AVSEQ01.MPG which TMPG tells me cannot be opened or created. this is my first attempt at making a vcd, so sorry for any silly questions. the movie plays fine on windows media player.

  3. you didnt take that AVSEQ01 out of a vcd and rename it to AVSEQ01.mpg did you? anyways, I always thought tmpg could convert avi and mpg's. BTW i'm pretty new to making vcds also so i feel your pain. Maybe you should open the AVSEQ01 file with virtualdub, and save it as a avi. but make sure on video you choose "direct stream copy". Then open it up with tmpg. If you can't open the AVSEQ01 file, I think that this is a DAT file, you going to need vcdgear to convert Dat to Mpg. It's really simple, just get the program and it has a eazy interface

  4. hi
ok the movie in questionis on acd which i thought would play on my dvd.
the next step was to try and convert it. i downloaded tmpg tonight and found that the AVSQ01.DAT FILE was causing a few problems. thats as much as i can tell you at the moment. being my first time, i know i have a lot to learn and understand. i hope some of you guys can point me in the rihgt direction.

  5. oOo i see, you know the Dat file is already in vcd format? when you burn your mpegs to a vcd, they turn into a dat file. You should get VCDgear and convert the dat file back to mpeg, so you can burn them again. So you don't even have to do any encoding, just convert the dat to mpg and burn it with nero or easy cd creator as a vcd and it will work

  9. ok ryu-hoshi

  10. sure, us newbies gotta stick together lol jk

Ur lost eh? tell u the truth, i rarely use vcdgear lol but me see, u open vcdgear, see where it says "extraction/conversion"? click the drop down menu, and choose "dat - > mpeg" now look at the bottom, where it says "load". click that and open your dat file. then click start. Now just wait a couple of minutes, and you will have the file in mpg format, now you can just burn it with nero or easy cd creator

  14. Hi swordmaker69,
The solution is quite simple. Just copy the file AVSQ01.DAT to your hard drive and rename it AVSQ01.mpg.
Then run your VCD writing software, Nero 5, NTI Pro, or Roxio to write it to your CD-ROM. There may be a message that says the file is not VCD-compliant. I normally ignore it and just write the VCD. Just to not waste CDs, use a CD-RW for your first attempt.
    Good luck!

  16. Semi Newbee Here. Some of these things are confusing. What I have reccommend to some of my friends is start with a package that does the steps and has a good Help file. Go to Ulead.com and download the Videostudio 6 Trial program. It is fully functional. Does capture, converting, editing and burning and has good results. There is a lot of good info in that program. Tempeng and virtualdub are good too but starting off and learning, Videostudio is a good way to go. I use Videostudio, Studio 7, Tempeng, Virtualdub, VideoCd and Premiere. Depends on what I'm doing.
