  1. I want to connect a Humax standalone PVR to a media centre PC and am looking for a simple USB hdmi capture device, which does not need an extra stripper. For this purpose I am not worried about quality, just something that will work. Are there any cheap Chinese USB devices that don't require a stripper? I just want a one cable solution and am not too concerned with the video quality (as long as it works)

I'm amazed that ezcapper hasn't suggested a bunch already. It looks like the bottom end of the Chinese HDMI "capture" market has moved entirely toward standalone boxes that record to USB sticks.

This is the cheapest PC capture device using USB that I see mentioning HDCP.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm pretty sure that is the same box as the magewell, rebranded from the same factory. So probably a decent bit of kit.

One of the other AliExpress listings has an infographic describing Knockoff vs "Salable Version" (that particular seller's offering). The description of the knockoff matches the one I linked. But it sounded like you want cheapest.

If you chain together an HDMI splitter that doesn't require separate power with a crappy capture device, you may be able to go cheaper still. I'm assuming your main objection to a splitter is running a power cable.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a link for the discussion on the "knockoff vs Salable Version" as I can't find one.

As for the HDCP splitter, you are right my main objection is running a power cable. It was interesting reading your discussion on the one you purchased. Did you ever find a solution to the green screen? Are there any others you have tried / read about that don't require separate power?
