Looking for a easy software that will put all of my .VOB files from a DVD movie to one file without any quality lose. Will HandBrake do this? Also do I have to add the .VOB files to the software in the order of the files from beginning to end of movie? Or will the software do this automatically?

Use vobmerge or vob2mpg if several titles. No video reconversion.

edit: Or if you are going to convert with handbrake then choose to open dvd folder and choose the folder with the vob and ifos.

Ok great thanks. So vobmerge or vob2mpg just takes mulitple .VOB's to one .VOB? HandBrake will convert .VOB's to .MP4

VOB2MPG will create an mpg file for each title in the VOBset. You can then convert these.

You didn't say whether the VOB files have already been ripped to your hard drive or are still on the DVD. If the former, plenty of good advice above. If the latter, DVD Decrypter will rip to one continuous file. Just go to Tools | Settings | IFO Mode and set File Splitting to "none."

I've read the complete thread but don't have answer to my question. Can I replicate an entire consumer dvd into the files of a consumer dvd, while avoiding encryption or other silly reindeer games. In other words I want to make a dvd with say handbrake, from a commercial dvd, that is itself an unencrypted vob file replica of the original burnable onto a disk? I thought the ripit4me, vlc and handbrake solutions held some promise. The solutions in the thread were not detailed enough to convince though. Please someone, convince me?

If it's unencrypted just copy it with imgburn.

DVDShrink will also make one large VOB file if that's what you want - or you can simply rip the main movie ready to burn as a DVD disc sans protection.

I'm not sure that I understand what you have and what you want to do with it.

First, Handbrake cannot create DVDs, nor can Handbrake decrypt DVDs. Handbrake can only create media files (mp4 or mkv files containing AVC or HEVC video and various audio formats) from DVDs that have been decrypted by something else.

If you want to decrypt and make copies of DVDs that you own in authored DVD format, you need something other than Handbrake. The free/trial version of DVDFab HD Decrypter can decrypt DVDs and create a copy on your hard drive, although some new DVD releases may require the paid version after the trial expires. Imgburn can burn the decrypted files and folders copied from the DVD and stored on the HDD onto DVD media.

DVDShrink doesn't work for ripping a percentage of DVDs that were released after its development ended, but DVDShrink can still be used on movies that were decrypted by another program to reduce the size to fit on regular DVD-R or DVD+R media instead of DVD+R DL media.

[Edit] If you only have one VOB file containing a complete movie, it may be possible to author (create) a new DVD from that, but only if the original DVD was correctly converted to a VOB file. [Edit 2]AVStoDVD can convert various media files into a complete set of DVD files and folders, then burn a DVD from them using ImgBurn. AVStoDVD accepts VOB files as input, but if the VOB files don't play correctly by themselves, the DVD created by AVStoDVD won't play correctly either.

I was asking too many questions at once in my original reply to this thread. The file is for the movie Cell 2016, a Lionheart film from a library, that is just loaded with tiny vobs, stacks of them. I was able to make an avi copy from it with handbrake, but only on a 5 year old macbook pro. An xp machine told me handbrake was not supported any longer on xp because xp is no longer supported. Is that true? Most dvds are NOT encrypted so the claim that old shrink won't rip a new commercial dvd is simply not true. I rip dozens of them a year, as recently as weeks ago. And on an XP machine. I tried handbrake on a windows 7 machine. Handbrake evaluated Cell 2016 but kicked out a deformed mkv that wouldn't play, using it on windows 7. I got a note from handbrake there was a problem with my win 7 setup. I was told I could make a wordpad file of the problems and consult it later, but there was no note in wordpad so I was unable to follow up on that. My original query HERE was about methods to make troubling standard DVD copy in the era when anydvd is dead while something called foxfire want's to charge for the program anew from Belize, for what I already paid for slyfox years ago. I also have versions, some of them old, of DVDFab which I tried on Cell (2016), tho I'd had so few problems with VOB file films for years, that I haven't had to learn anything new about ripping them since the aughts. If someone's got a solution for Cell 2016, using freeware, let me know. I had the same problems with Cafe Society (2016). I make consumer dvd copies for civilians who don't have specialized knowledge or equipment to see these films any other way than on a standard dvd player. Some of them can watch universal video formats from thumb drives inserted in smart and not so smart sets. But some lack even that equipment. The worst of them still use desktops computers. Anyone with answers to any of the several questions raised above, please send details?

Yes. Recent versions of Handbrake are for Vista to Windows 10. You would need an old version of Handbrake if you use XP.

I know that at least some theatrical movies I've purchased on DVD have been encrypted/copy protected with CSS. CSS encryption is very common, although it was cracked long ago. However, there are other means of copy protection, like ARccOS, and Disney uses some crafty proprietary schemes that confuse some older ripping software.

No kidding. I already told you that new movies on DVD use newer forms of copy protection that older ripping software does not know how to handle, and I already told you that DVDFab's free/trial version doesn't work with some newer movies. It is always several months behind the paid version.

There are more free ripping programs (I'm sure a search engine can find them for you), but I think you will find that many of them are less up to date than the paid ones.

[Edit] MakeMKV is free for Blu-ray while in beta and MakeMKV's developer says it will always be free for DVD. MakeMKV is more up to date than many DVD rippers, but for DVD, the only output format is an MKV file containing the original MPEG-2 video and audio. Every 60 days or so the trial key expires and users may either download a new version or obtain a new key from MakeMKV's forum: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053.

I use the old and discontinued SmartRipper to create single VOB's from multiple VOB's that are either on a disc or on a hard drive. It works beautifully! After creating my single VOB's I do my compressing either in MeGUI or VirtualDub depending on what I'm doing with each particular file.

Everyone's forgetting I'm making cornball dvds for fuddy duddies who know nothing about mp4s and mkvs. They buy new desktops and are angry about being expected to keep abreast of newer stuff. Anydvd worked for 11 years. Now its been displaced,. Its replacement charges a renewal fee each year. H'wood knows it and is trying to close a hole that's been open forever. Will the free tech people let them? Producers will close the alternate video file windows next. Something has to be done. Even silicon valley has been stripped of some of its power with the recent election.
