I'm in the process of transferring some VCDs to DVD+RW and I'm having a bit of a problem.

I've used the VCDHelp guide and found that it works well when I play the DVD on my PC. In fact, I don't even need to use the suggested DVDPatcher program to make it work on my PC! All I have to do is demux the mpeg1 stream into m1v and mpa files using TMPGEnc, import them into SpruceUp v1.1 and create a titleset to burn with Nero 5.5.8.0. The problem lies in making the VCDDVD play on a pioneer DVD player (DV-333). It will play both VCDs and SVCDs.

No matter what I do, the DVD player cannot play the VCDDVD. It reads it as a DVD, shows the main menu and then, when I select the movie to play, shows the background of the main menu while it plays choppy sound at an accelerated rate. I've done the 44.1 kHz --> 48 kHz audio conversion and the numerous patches with DVDPatcher that have been suggested in this forum.

My feeling is that the DVD player automatically tries to play the stream as an mpeg2 stream. I don't know if this is on the player end, i.e. insert a DVD and the mpeg2 codec is automatically initiated, or if SpruceUp is creating an ifo file or something that tells the DVD player that the VCDDVD contains mpeg2 streams.

Is there a way to specify that the mpeg stream is mpeg1? Is this in the ifo file and is it editable? I'd appreciate any suggestions.
