    I have captured from vcr vhf videos via pc tuner card.These videos are in mpeg2 format.Every vhs duration was2hours 30 minutes to 3hours.Captured files duration is sameI tried to encoding for dvd burning with Ulead Moviefactory and xto dvd but video quality is very poor. Please tell me the programme for best quality encoding and burning.I want to burn one vhs capture mpeg2 files on one dvdr4.7 with same vhs quality and time limit.

    If you want them in DVD-video format, you could use AVStoDVD. I would advise using the HC encoder that is built into the program and a two pass encode. Use ImgBurn to burn to a disc. By the way, you would do better to use double layer discs with this much running time. Use only Verbatim +R DL discs.

    But your videos might be improved by some filtering, depending on their quality now. You could upload a sample here and let some of the resident experts on the subject take a look at them.

  3. To get three hours of a VHS source on a 4.3 GB DVD use half D1 resolution -- 352x576 in PAL areas. Maybe even quarter D1, 352x288. With the former you don't really lose anything because that's about the real resolution of VHS. With the latter you will be losing resolution, but you're giving up resolution to get less blocking artifacts and other detail loss.

    I can see the difference between D1 and half-D1 with a good VHS source. Why not use a DL disc? It costs less than $1 more.
