When you say "the video played perfect the whole time" are you speaking about your burnt VCD on your standalone DVD Player or on the hard drive?

If you have played this VCD before in your Pioneer, it probably needs cleaning, or you have damaged it in some way.

If it played ok on your hard drive, or in your PC drive, try using a different coloured layered media.

  3. i said the video played perfect the audio did not. everything is of course fine on my computer. other vcds on the SAME MEDIA play fine, dvds play fine, so the player is neither damaged or unclean.

Audio skipping is actually quite new to me as I have only heard of video skipping. If the same VCD is audio skipping (you don't mean become unsynced do you?) in your Pioneer but not in your PC CD-Drive, you might have to demux and remux your files.
