MeGUI won't update

When I install MeGUI and open it, it asks me to update. I say yes, install all the updates, and restart. Then I get a error message saying: "Couldn't run updater". And it keeps asking me to install updates, again and again.

EDIT: Nevermind, got that fixed. Not it says "can't read video stream" when I save my avs script...

"can't read video stream" might mean the script doesn't result in a video output. It might help to post an example of the script.

If you have Avisynth installed, which I think is a good idea (even though by default MeGUI will use it's own portable version) you can try opening the script with another program. MPC-HC for example. If that works then it's more likely to be an MeGUI issue, but sometimes Avisynth will be outputting an error message you don't see when you try to open the script with MeGUI, but you should see when opening it with MPC-HC. That might point to a script error.

I started having issues after step 8.

EDIT: I fixed it! All I had to do was install AviSynth MT, and replace the avisynth.dll in the SysWOW64 folder.

Very likely, if you'd opened the script in another program, you'd have seen an error message such as "there's no such function as SetMTMode", because the standard version of Avisynth doesn't have a multi-threaded mode. Not that it matters now, given you've managed to sort it.

By the way.... I'd rarely convert videos that way myself. Not without keeping the original too, because the process of interpolating frames can introduce artefacts and you'll be encoding them forever. If you can open that script in MPC-HC and your PC is fast enough, it'll display the script in real time, which means you can watch video that way without converting it (my old PC is fine for SD but not fast enough for HD).

There's the SmoothVideo Project. To be honest I haven't really played with it but it's much like having Interframe installed as a DirectShow filter.
Another option is Potplayer, and possibly a better option, as it doesn't need to install extra DirectShow filters. I haven't used it much myself but Potplayer comes configured with scripts for frame interpolation on playback. You might just need to modify the scripts according to where you've put the Interframe plugins.

Some of the scripts use the original version of Interframe (which I think requires MVTools2), some use Interframe2, and some don't require Interframe at all. I assume they just require MVTools2. I also assume they'd be faster but lower quality.




Of course you've got to have a fast enough PC, and it's all personal preference, but I thought I'd mention it in case you weren't aware it could be done.

Which version of MeGUI are you running?
MeGUI hasn't been updated much lately. I don't know for certain, but it's possible the version on the stable update server hasn't changed in quite a while. Have you tried switching to the development update server in MeGUI's preferences? The current version there is 2634.
I assume the guy who maintains MeGUI has been busy with other things lately.
