  1. Hi Friends,

I use the latest version of DVDFab 9 to rip my Blurays to my NAS (and I mean the Bluray that I have regularly purchased !...).

I have no problem with the episodes, but I get the video without any sound when I rip the bonuses : I can rip them, but I got the video without the sound ??!!

Any idea to fix this problem ??

    Thank you very much,

Have you checked the original file on the disc and the ripped file with MediaInfo? The audio may be there, but in a different format. Extras or bonus videos can be in SD quality and with just stereo or AC-3 sound.

  3. Hi redwudz,

Below is the MediaInfo information on the ripped file : it says nothing about audio... How can i check the original file as you suggested ??

You may be right by saying that the Audio might be there in a different format, because on my previous Bluray discs (of the previous seasons), I have found many bonuses that were ripped in a .MPV format (with a lower resoution, let say 640x480 for example) that I should convert to .MOV to be properly encoded by MKVMerge. But this was related to the video track, not to the audio track, and it was the method that I used when I used Slysoft...

Since I use DVDFab 9, I do not see the video and audio tracks : DVDFab works alone and is supposed to generate the appropriate ripped video (including audio) file.

    Any suggestion is welcome,
    Thanks

You can open the BDMV>STREAM on the BD disc to view it.
Normally the smaller/shorter duration .m2ts files are the bonuses/extras or small parts of the main movie.

The shortest files are usually previews. You should be able to play them all with VLC or a few other media players.

You should also be able to read them with MediaInfo.
But most extras/bonus video is 720 X 480 (NTSC) and the audio is just AC-3 stereo, so shouldn't be a problem to backup.

If you want to view more of the structure of a BD disc, try BDInfo. It should show all tracks and all audio and which .m2ts files are part of the main movie.

Yes I can open BDMW>STREAM in the windows explorer, and I know that the bonuses have a smaller size than the film itself.

I do not understand why, but VLC refuses to read the .M2TS files directly from the bluray disc : no pb to read the files extracted by DVDFab on a hard drive, but not directly from the disc. And DVDFab extracts the bonuses without any sound... As explained at the end of my message, VLC also refuses to read a .M2TS file when the file has been copied to the hard drive...

You should also be able to read them with MediaInfo.

It is not always the case, and particularly with the StarTrek series, I believe that the bonus are have bit "strange" format : when I previously used Slysoft, the method for ripping was to successively use BDInfo / TsMuxer and MkvMerge, and I got a strange .MPV movie that I had to convert first to .MOV in order to merge it with the sound in MKVMerge...

Maybe it is the reason why DVDFab does not extract the bonuses correctly ? (but if a .MPV format is a strange video format, the audio format was usual...).

And i also have issues when BDInfo scans the blurawhereas I had never faced any problwhen using Slysoft (!) : look at this error

Let me show what DVDFab shows after it has read the Bluray :

And final comment : when I copy a M2TS file from the bluray to the hard disk, let say 0015.M2TS for example, VLC refuses to read it... It looks loke DVDFab does not remove the protection of the bluray ?? (whereas there was no pb at all with Slysoft).

Do you see anything strange it this display, or do you need further detail (another screen ?) to diagnose ?

    Thanks for your help,
