M2V and AC3

I ripped a dvd and demuxed the audio and the video, since the vob files took up more room. i tried multiplexing the 2, using tmpenc to convert/join them to an mpeg1 or mpeg2, and to a DivX avi. and everything that i do the audio finishes before the video or vice versa. i can't get them to stay together the whole movie. i even tried converting the ac3 file to a wav and it didn't help. any suggestions???

i forgot to mention that i used smartripper to rip the dvd
