Have a friend who has the same processor as me with a new 16x sony DVD drive. He can rip movies at about 5.5x to 8.5x. I on the other hand cant get it past 1.5x (hence 90 minutes to rip a 2hr movie) and I have a 16x samsung that came package with my Dell upon purchase. Wondering if my drive just has old architecture in it or something, which is why its so freaking slow. Just curious is tryin a new drive - 35.00 bucks from price watch may fix the problem>>>Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.Cheers.T

that may solve your problem. but When You buy buy lite on or Pioneer DVD. Those are the best for ripping. i have a pioneer and i can rip at 6 - 10 X sometimes 12 x. But first try to update the ASPI drivers from adaptech.

@sumibas
Thanks for the suggestion. Im going to run the ASPI Utility checker, I think I have a conflict with WM player 7.0 and the ASPI layer I already installed. Thus, I never installed 4.70 because it wouldnt overide my previous ASPI layer (per notes on Adaptechs site).
Thanks again. -
could be just the drive itself...i remember hearing ppl say that dell packaged toshiba 16x w/ their systems and it could only rip max 2x...maybe same for samsung u have
