Perhaps an Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) layer will help you.

Adaptec has them, so does nero.

  5. I got a Toshiba 1402 DVD drive about a year ago...I bought it because I heard it worked well as a reading drive with many burning programs ...anyway, when I would use it with SmartRipper, it would never go over 2x even though it is a 12x drive...I was informed by someone that Toshiba intentionally imposed a limit on this and other of their DVD drives to make it harder to Rip DVDs...however, at some point, something happened and I can now Rip with SmartRipper at up to full speed...always takes about 10 mins to rip a movie as opposed to about 45 mins at 2x...I am slightly baffled, I don't know what happened but I'm not going to complain...and it still has the benefit that Toshiba is known for of reading disks that other drives have a hard time with...

...try latest firmware, make sure you have UDMA enabled...

...now I want to know if there is a way to get around my Pioneer ripping at only 2X...

  10. Sorry guy, I do have ASPI drivers installed on our 2k and XP machines. I don't know where to find them seperately, but if you go to a game system emulation site, look for: ePSXe_setup.exe It's a Playstation Emulator that contains ASPI drivers. They seem to work fine.

The funny thing is when I use the ASPI VOB file access I only get 1x-2x, when I set it to AUTO it could jump to 8x or 9x for a limited amount of time.
