  1. Hello

I am using a PC running Win 10.

I got a movie which is in the MKV format. The audio is in TrueHD format.

If I play the movie in Windows Media Player or Films & TV app there video is OK but the audio doesn't work. If I play the movie in VLC the audio is fine but the video is not full screen but just a square in the centre and changing the settings simply distorts the picture.

So what should I do and how should I do it to make sure that I can watch both full screen video and hear the audio.

    Thanks for any help!!

You can try install the Lav filters and see if you get the audio working with WMP.

Have you tried all settings under Video->Zoom and Video->Aspect ratio in VLC Media player?

Or try another player like MPC-HC or PotPlayer or Smplayer.

  3. Hello Baldrick

I wanted to avoid trying lots of different players, but that is a solution and I tried Potplayer and it seems to work OK.

I didn't know what to do with Lavfilters and in reply to your other question: yes, I tried all the zoom and aspect ratio settings in VLC and nothing worked; the picture was always distorted.

Thanks for your help all the same.

You should just install lavfilters...and then it might work with Windows Media Player as it should use lavfilter to decode the audio.
