    Hi everyone,

I recorded a band performance last night and want to get it onto a dvd for them. But, DVD Lab Pro 2 wont import it. I've tried convrting it to every file type I can think of but it comes up with a massive list of errors every time. I tried importing some of my older videos instead to give them a go, but it wont import them either. Is there a better program I can use which will allow me to make menus and create chapter points in my footage?

  2. DVDLabPro does not do anything to video, it just remuxes it into DVD structure, so whatever you import into that software has to follow DVD specs for video and better yet it could be a separate video and audio stream. If you import mpg DVDLabPro can demuxed it for you, but I never actually used that feature.

So is it mpeg2 stream within DVD specs?

All my video editing is carried out in Vegas Pro, I just want to use DVD lab to create the dvd itself, but it wont accept any files. It demuxes, but then comes up with a list of errors

In order to import into DVD Lab Pro, your video must already be encoded to mpeg2 that is compliant to DVD-video specifications, and you have to have an appropriate audio type, like AC3 or LPCM at 48khz.

You can make a DVD in AVStoDVD, and you can make a relatively simple menu in that program, but making chapter points is more of an issue. Normally, the program defaults to a chapter every 5 minutes. You can have it search for chapter points, but this isn't entirely predictable. Or you can set the interval to something other than 5 minutes, but putting the chapter points at exact spots is not easy with the program.

Here's another option. You could use AVStoDVD to make the compliant video and audio for you, and have it output as Elementary MPEG2 streams. Use these to import into DVDLab Pro to make your menus and chapters. I prefer to encode with AVStoDVD using the HC encoder in a two pass configuration.

Ok, that sounds good. I shall give that a go and see if I can get it to work
