  1. Hi!

Any advice on recording sound during a Bar Mitzvah. We're waiting on synagogue rules but...

    1) If we have to record from the back only, is there anyway to improve sound from that distance? Any particular mic you would use. We have a Rode Shotgun and Zoom H2's so will rent something better for that purpose.

    2) If we can place mics in the front we are thinking about just placing the zooms on stands near the front. Any thoughts? Any better options. Because it is a religious services, we obviously need to lay low and be respectful.

    Thanks!

    Tom

Maybe wireless microphones at the front so that you don't have leads running everywhere? Shot gun microphones at the back "might" work but the local acoustics will play a big part.

Your audio will probably be terrible recording from the back unless the synagogue has excellent acoustics. Make this clear to the person paying (?) you. The very best sound will come from putting wireless lavs on the participants plus a mic at the back for ambience/congregation coverage. Barring that, try to hide wireless mics up front where they will pick up voices and also tap off the PA system.

  4. Agreed JVraaines. I made that very clear. Just wondering if there were any thoughts on improving the situations.

    Thanks!
