I have a LED Philips TV with a HDMI connection to an off the shelf media player. The media player is on a Wi Fi link to my ADSL Router.
We have a new video streaming service called Showmax. I tried connecting but all I got was a static menu display.
I contacted both companies but short of suggesting the TV might need a Firmware/Software upgrade, nothing useful was suggested.
It was however suggested that it could be a problem with the Codec, being unsuitable. Does that make any sense?
Is there any remedy for this problem?

Not much I can tell you about it. It's by Cloudgate and is what is called Cloudgate Circle.
That's about all the info available I'm afraid! -
ShowMax uses WideVine DRM which isn't currently supported by the CloudGate Circle device. So, you will hear audio, but the video on't play. The CloudGate team are investigating, but at this stage there is no solution. You will need to use another device, e.g. a laptop connected via HDMI to your TV, for now.
