It started acting strange yesterday. The whole interface was different, with different colours: couldn't get the Digital Guide to show.. various oddities. I did a factory reset, but it stayed the same. There was no signal coming in from the Tv any more, so everything recorded blank. I unplugged the machine and left it a minute... nothing helped. After an hour I gave up with it.

This morning, nothing works: I can't open the tray or operate any of the buttons. I managed to turn it off by holding down the I/O button for several seconds. The LED display shows the word 'Update', but it has been like that for several hours now.

Has the machine died for good? Maybe I am unlucky but over the past ten years I have had at least six recorders of different makes in a variety of locations. All have given up the ghost after a depressingly short time (but never within the guarantee period). If this one (not under warranty) is only fit for the bin, I doubt I shall get another one. I shall try to record programmes I want to watch on my PC instead, or just stop watching TV altogether..

    Thanks,

    Martin

Left it unplugged for three hours, to no avail. It sat there plugged in again all night and all morning with the 'Update' message on the LED. I tried switching it off an hour ago by holding the O/I down. And it all came back to life, everything normal.

Sounds like it may be on the way out even so. Or maybe that extended 'Update' fixed something??
