  1. Does anyone know if any mfg makes a black DVD+RW drives?

I'm really not that picky about component parts matching, but a beige drive in a black case is going to look terrible!

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, this is my computer at work. If it was my own, I don't think that I'd mind, but I am not gonna take the chance that it could get screwed up.

    I'm really lousy with paint!

  4. You could try Dell or HP for an Option. They have Black bezel drives.

I looked into Dell. I'm actually buying the part for my Dell Precision 330 (black). I ordered a couple precision 340's with dvd+rw for my department (also black). I called Dells small parts division and tried to buy the dvd+rw's that are in the 340's, but they can't sell them to me. They can't even look up what model they are. It's not that they won't sell them to me, they have no way to sell that part on it's own. Jessica Phillips at dell small parts (the woman who I talked to) even went as far as trying to build a system with that part and then stripping everything but the part. She still couldn't find a way to sell it! She was very helpful and tried very hard.

Isn't it strange that Dell can sell a system with a part, but no one knows what that part is to sell it otherwise?

Buy the 340s, remove the drives, return the 340s to Dell for service saying someone stole the drives.

You know, I actually thought about something along those lines.

Call and claim that we need additional drives for this system since they won't sell them without a system. At least they should be able to sell you replacement or additional drives for the system I already own right?
