Ok, I downloaded a short .avi movie about 45 minutes long, and it's 123MB. The thing is the audio is fine but the framerate seems to be slow.
I used Vdub and changed the framerate from 23.970 to 23.976, and it seems to be all insynced. BUT when I save the avi it's WAY too big making it about over 6GB for only 18 minutes of the movie!! Is there anyway to change the framerate so it matches but being able to save the new avi file to a smaller more compressed version??
Another thing, when I play the movie that's where the framerate is slow (I use Windows Media Player) BUT when I open it in Vdub and just press play, without doing any changes to it, the framerate seems fine. What is wrong? do I need som'n for my WMP or what?
Please, I'm very desperate for help here, I really need it.

ok for your first prob with the 6gb file obviously you have not compressed the file with any sorta codec what so ever. when you save the AVI fully umcompressed frames then clearly you are going to output a really large file so you should then a compression such as divx.
for the question about the frame rate you you could use a program called pulldown this converts the frame rate basically telling you software to play it at a higher frame rate this operation is called pulldown 3:2.
let me know how you get onMikey  -
how do i go about compressing it? I know I go to video>compression then pick a compressor right? I choose Divx 4 low. then what? Or did I do som'n wrong?
How do I use that pulldown program? -
ok heres the first thing you use pulldown if you are creating a svcd or vcd (NTSC). as for the compressor i recommend you download the new divx 5.0 its the latest and it give me the best quality! then set up the quality settings it recommended that you use the best setting all you have you to use a bit rate calculator. get the maxium bitrate that you can with the audio at about 96kb/s.
i dnt know if i have been anyhelp to you.Mikey  -
Well you're helping me so that's helpful at least! thanks sorry i have no experience in this whole framerate stuff and VDub (cuz i've never had any problems with any of my movies), anyways about the pulldown, yes I plan to make a vcd, and ok this is what i do tell me if any of it is wrong
in the input I put the .avi file in there>options>check framerate 23.976>save>process and it finishes in a jiff. Was taht supposed to change the framerate when I process it? cuz when I play it it's the same thing.
In VDub here's what I do open .avi> video> full processing mode
Then after I select that video> compression> divx pro 5.0.1. Codec> Configure> Encoding bitrate I put to 2624 kbps (that's what I got as the max svcd bitrate from the calc)> Ok> Ok
audio>compression> divx audio> 96kbps, 44kHz, stereo> ok
Then after that File> Preview and the projected file size is still big like 16,600 MB
So have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
THANK YOU SOO MUCH AGAIN! -
when you are setting up vdub what is the resolution you are using? and you could use a bit rate of about 2200 that is what i like to use.
in the input I put the .avi file in there>options>check framerate 23.976>save>process and it finishes in a jiff. Was taht supposed to change the framerate when I process it? cuz when I play it it's the same thing.
The audio settings you are using are spot on. just let me know the resolution that you want to encode in to.[/quote]Mikey  -

So how do compress it so it won't take up so much room? -
ok correct me if i am wrong but 16,600 MB is 166mb? right? that is not a big file size at all i dnt think that there is not much you can do to make it small than that. you see most movies which are around 2 hours are around 2000mb so yours isnt that big.
do you have the frame rate correct now?Mikey  -
No, it says (on VDub) the projected file size IS around 16,600 MB. If it said 16,600kb THEN it would be 166 MB. So now what?
Am I compressing it right? Can someone tell me step by step how to compress on VDub please? just so i know I'm doing this right? -
Is there anything extra I should download to compress?
What does the Pulldown program do? How do I use it?
