I hadn't used my Hauppauge 1212 since I moved back here four years ago and with football season almost here, I decided I would hook it back up. Before, when I had it working I was on XP Pro and Cox Cable. Now I have Windows 7 and Dish Network. When I first installed it, it looked like it was going to work but I was advised to restart the computer and when I did, the computer acted like the power was being turned off and on and when it finally loaded Windows, I couldn't get a picture on the Arcsoft capture software. It finds the device but it doesn't have a picture or sound and it says the input source is 720x480 and is grayed out. I've uninstalled the software and reinstalled it. I've downloaded newer versions of the software and only version 3 with Showbiz gives me a picture but it still says 720x480 instead of 1080i or 720p and still no audio.
I've searched and searched for answers but can't find any. I am supposed to be able to have both hdmi and component hooked up with the Dish STB but it will not work with both hooked up or with just component hooked up. It's like the Dish STB knows that I'm hooked up to a capture device and is blocking me from capturing HD video and 5.1 audio (or SD for that matter) I can't capture anything as I get a capture failed every time I try to capture anything. I'm getting 5.1 audio from the Dish STB to the Hauppauge but it is not coming out of the hauppauge (no passthrough).
When I had cable and XP, I had to use a splitter on the component cables and disconnect the HDMI because it would not allow both and it would not pass the video through the Haupauge like it says it's supposed to but it passed the 5.1 audio through with no problem.
I tried the disc that came with the Hauppauge and tried to update the software but it said it was already updated so I had to search the internet to find a newer download which was almost impossible. The one guide that I found was for TME2 and I could not find a download for that version anywhere. Mine came with TME1.
My question is, has anyone been able to capture HD (or anything for that matter) with Windows 7 with the Hauppauge 1212 with Dish and if so, how were able to accomplish this? I'm also hooked up to a Sony STR DH810 Surround Receiver.

Try Hauppauge Capture. It is Hauppauge's replacement for ArcSoft Total Media Extreme and ArcSoft Showbiz.

I downloaded and installed Hauppauge Capture but the only way I can get it to record anything is if I choose "RCA Back Panel" for audio but it only records the video in 720x480 resolution with no audio. It shows an audio file in the m2ts container but when I try to play it, there is no audio.

What kind of cable are you using? Composite? You need to use component cables (red, green, blue RCA connectors) to capture analog high def video, and of course red/white RCA audio cables for the audio. And did you configure the Dish box to output 720p or 1080i at the component port?

Of coarse I’m using component cables
Thanks for the info on the Dish box though. I did not know that you had to set the output. I set it to 720p since it is recommended over 1080i.
The picture looks good at 720p but again, there is no audio. Programs see a 2 channel, 48KHz, 384kbps ac3 file but nothing will play or convert the audio. DBpoweramp sees no audio file. Goldwave sees a file with a flat line for the volume.
Here is a MediaInfo text file...
Never mind, Deleted due to human error
I have the component audio hooked up to the 1212 (I get a black picture if I use SPDIF) now but when I had it hooked up to Cox Cable, I was able to capture 5.1 ac3 from the SPDIF cable.
EDIT: I double checked the component cable coming from the STB and the audio wasn't hooked up. I was spending all my time wondering why I couldn't get 5.1 audio from the SPDIF cable since the light is on with both the in and out cables that I failed to check the component cables at the STB. That light is a solid light though so Dish must be muting the 5.1 from the SPDIF cable with the HDMI cable hooked up (no, I unhooked the HDMI cable earlier to see if that was the issue).
Oh well, 2 channel 384 Kbps ac3 is better than no audio.
