As a veteran captioner who's recently gone freelance, I'm struggling to find decent captioning/subtitling software that will allow me to import and export all of the file types that I might be called on to work with and/or to provide by a variety of clients. Any suggestions for such a software purchase would be appreciated. So far, my research has turned up no clear candidates for purchase. I want a "turnkey" solution with good customer service and an ability to handle the full gamut of export formats and video formats, plus the ability to embed captions. Here's what I've discovered to date while searching:

TELESTREAM CAPTIONMAKER I'm currently using Telestream Captionmaker "desktop" version, but am hesitant to pay 5 grand to upgrade to the "pro" version because I'm not too happy with the user interface.

LEMONY The company that makes "Lemony" software seems to be going through changes, since the last employee that I spoke to there said he wasn't sure they could even get me a copy of the program due to the ongoing shake-up.

ECLIPSE ACCUCAP The Eclipse software (AccuCap) looked fantastic -- with great customer service! -- until I got the strong feeling that it was only for real-time captioning. (I've left a message asking for clarification, but I'm not optimistic.)

SWIFT The Swift software is even more expensive than Telestream and you have to choose between captioning and subtitling -- or else buy two separate programs in order to do both, running the cost up to 10 grand or so.

OTHER The cheap and free online stuff does not work with Cheetah caps and does not offer embedding of captions.
