  1. Just wondering is there anything simple out there that can allow me to join two video files together. I don't plan to do any cutting or editing just placing one video file after another. I have been using aviutl but that takes up to an hour to get the job done. Anything maybe less than half an hour or so?

If the video files have exact same properties(resolution, frame rate, codecs, etc) can you join without converting using for example avidemux, file->open, file->append, video->copy, audio->copy, save as a new mkv/mp4/avi. Or join mkv files with mkvmergegui. Or ts/mts files with tsmuxer.

Or else must you reconvert (and it takes much longer like aviutl).

  3. Or you could convert one of them to get identical properties.

  4. up to an hour?

What are the resolution of your videos and how long are they?

If you are on a Core i5 or i7, you can use the included QSVEnc encoder and get a 5~10X speedup
(Quality is not as good as x264 however.)

It might not be that simple to get all properties identical.

  6. The smart editing thing (for anything except AVI) has quite a lot of limitations.
If you use it on some TV-broadcast recordings, it is almost certain that the resultant file will be corrupted/invalid.

Just search "Smart editing" on this forum and you will find loads of threads on it (and you shall notice its problem.)

Video to Video does more than join videos and it is a very good free program.
