    Well, I use a HTPC, but I run Plex Media Server and can play movies on all my devices over the network.

    Personally I get excellent image quality with hardware players which you literally just plug in power and hdmi, whereas with a htpc you have to tinker around with renderers, codecs, mircosoft patches, ................
