I'm using Avanti for this, but I don't think it's an Avanti-specific question. I've bene given a 3.5Mb .mp4 file and I need to convert it so it's readable by both Windows and Mac but without any additional software. I use VLC to play it myself, but standard Windows builds can't read it.
Which Codec/Container combination do I need?
Many thanks,
Steve

Most mp4s(avc/h264 video and aac audio) should work fine in WMP 12+ and Mac osx quicktime player.

Can you post the video and audio details from the mp4? Use www.videohelp.com/tools/mediainfoxp to get the information.

What a great little program - thank you! In the end I went for MPEG-4 with default container and it produced an AVI file. I tried random bitrates/framerates etc. and got something of similar quality and a little less in size, but as I said it was random, and there was no knowledge whatsoever in what I was doing.

I've posted the info below anyway, so I may be enlightened as to what I *should* have done!

 Many thanks,
 Steve

That should work in wmp 12. If not try reconvert to a new mp4 with handbrake or avanti.

If you want it to work in all windows versions must you use wmv or mpeg1/mpg(mpg1 is not recommended for any hd video). BUt wmw wont work directly in mac os.

Avi (divx/xvid/mpeg4 video) wont work directly in mac os either.
