I read in a previous post that cpu life was shortened by the ripping, encoding process. Is this true? I'm running a 533mhtz AMD K-6, and seem to have no troubles, at all. Except for it being slow. Will this change if I continue ripping/encoding DVD's?
By the way...poopyhead...Thanks for the help with my no audio problem. I did what you said and it worked great.

i imagine doing anything with your cpu will shorten its life.. but the life of a cpu is long enough so that even if it did take 5 or 10 years off its life, the cpu would be so obselete by that time it wouldnt really matter...

heat is the primary factor. high cpu load tranlates into heat. if you can keep your cpu cool then it matters not whether it is at 100% utilization or idle, temperature being equal. as someone pointed out even if your cpu lifespan is cut drastically short, odds are it will already be laughably obsolete. fact of the matter is your cpu has already settled down in a retirement community
