I have used Nero to burn a VCD to my HP-Writer. I used the sample image in fact that is located here on VCDhelp.com (so no file conversion necessary). I burned this image numerous times but every time I play it in my Sony DVP-S570D DVD player I get a whirring sound then a "No Disk" error.

I have wasted about 15 CD's and even have tried Toast 5 from my Mac... basically everything. I can never get these to play. I am literally looking at the manual right now for my DVD player and it says it plays VCD's (says to simply put the disc in the tray and you may see a menu depending on the kind of VCD you're playing).

I'm at a loss here and am new to the site so please don't flame me for something that may be obvious here. I do not know what to try next! HELP!

  2. VCD compatibility DOES NOT equal CD-R/CD-RW compatibility.

Your DVD player isn't designed to playback CD-R/W media and thus not surprisingly doesn't read them well.

You will have to experiment with different brands of CD-R/W media to find one that will work on your player. CD-RW often works better in these cases.

  3. I have a Sony s530d. If you have a CompUSA store by you try the store brand cd/r's. They come wraped in plastic with no spindle and have no label on them. I found that these are the only ones to work on mine.

Thanks bblack - I DO have a Comp usa near me and will give that a shot. I'll be seriously crushed if I do not have the ability to burn and watch my own VCD's. I did not realize the media made a difference so I will experiment with that.

  6. I had the same problem with my Sony 560 player. CD-RWs will read fine in the player, but very rarely do CD-Rs.

when my apex makes a whirring sound, and then a weird little click sound, I usually find that I either didnt write the cd in the correct mode, or did not close(finalze) the cd.
