Did any one manage to compile x265 (from multicoreware) for Mac OS X?
I tried to get it to compile, but didn't succeed.
(Background: I would like to add x265 to Hybrid on Mac; Windows&Linux already works, but without binaries,...)

Probably you should join the x265 mailing list and start pestering Steve Borho
-
I already get enough spam as it is and try to avoid any kind of mailing lists.
-
Then send him an e-mail, at least. That's what I did, before joining the mailing list.
AFAIK, Tom Vaughan is the only one who doesn't want Steve Borho to receive e-mails about the X265 ProjectLast edited by El Heggunte; 6th Nov 2013 at 06:04. Reason: styling ???

Before I do that I wait for some user to confirm if there really is a problem with building x265 on MacOS X, to be sure this is not me not getting if working,....

Added an entry to the issue tracker over at bitbucket, see: https://bitbucket.org/multicoreware/x265/issue/2/compiling-on-mac-1068-using-xcode-doesnt
-
if you think that is funny look at the ffmpeg issue I'm fighting atm., since the want uncut/unshortened output the ticked looks like hell,...
btw. bitbucket has the worst formating in tickets I have seen for quite some time,...Last edited by Selur; 6th Nov 2013 at 08:45.

I don't think and I didn't say it's funny, I just tried to say you did the right thing ATM.

I built successfully x265 on Mac OS X Mavericks after installing cmake with
hg clone https://bitbucket.org/multicoreware/x265 cd x265/source cmake . make

Thanks for the info!
Is compiled static? If so could you share the binary? I would like to test if it works on my Mac OS X 10.6.8 system. -
Apparently it builds static. Here is a link for the x265 binary:
http://dl.free.fr/npMynjkd3
houdini -
otool -L ./x265
./x265:
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1197.1.1)
/usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 120.0.0)
houdini -
/usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 1197.1.1)
/usr/lib/libc++.1.dylib (compatibility version 1.0.0, current version 120.0.0)
-> so no x265 for me (and Hybrid) until they fix the compiling issued on Snow Leopard. (my mac doesn't support newer versions) -
since the reporting to the bug tracker didn't get any response at all I posted to the mailing list:
https://mailman.videolan.org/pipermail/x265-devel/2013-November/002418.html
and from the looks of it compiling x265 only works on Mavericks and is broken for all other Mac OS X versions. -
What about this, does it work?
cmake: gcc flag introspection to fix Mac OS X 10.6 build
https://bitbucket.org/multicoreware/x265/commits/38719294293fd409a35e37c4b75c061cef247816 -
So back at home, tested and .... I does work!
(now I just need a source for up-to-date mencoder/mplayer builds for mac, but that's another problem)
Thanks to Steve Borho and all others that helped fixing this!
Cu Selur
