Boilsoft - Wont recognize Mp4

Hi, I want to trim MP4 videos and Boilsoft says it's capable, but I continue to get an error message that says Boilsoft cant play my mp4. Is this a codec's issue? Ive used Boilsoft before to split wmv and I like it. It's easy to use so Im trying to figure out a way to make this work as opposed to simply using another program.

I downloaded avidmux and while it works, when split a video the result product works fine, but if I try to skip forward a few seconds the picture is lost and takes a few seconds to reappear. Pretty annoying.
