  1. Hi,
I wanted to make copies of some music video DVD's I have. Potentially I want to make up my own music video compilations on a DVD.

So I started reading up on this a few days ago, and have got as far as copying the VIDIO_TS folder from one DVD to my hard drive. I've then used a product 'BurnAware free' to burn this onto a blank DVD+RW, to test it.
The playback quality on my DVD player was poor, so I tried doing it again at the slowest rate (2.4x). This improved things but both the video play and audio is pixelated and juddery.
Am I missing a trick here, is this some security, measure?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
Factory-made Concert and Music Video DVDs do not have the latest and greatest copy protections like new Hollywood releases....but they do have basic protections that leave "just copy and pasting the VIDEO_TS folder" useless.
Don't waste your time.....get a decrypter like DVDFabDecrypter or AnyDVD.....even out-of-date programs like DVDDecrypter SHOULD be able to handle concert DVDs but if not....see my first two suggestions.

For making your own compilations, DVDShrink(if used AFTER decrypting/ripping) is a good place to start.

Are these DVDs commercial ones ?

What do you mean by 'copying'. Simply dragging the folders from the disk to your HDD or using ripping software ?

I would suggest, when we establish the above, that use use imgburn and not the program you are currently using to burn.

  4. These are shop-bought music video DVD's, from about 2004 onwards, and Yes I'm copying the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to my hard disk.

I had thought they had copied across and played okay, but have now testing the VOB files on my hard disk, I can see they haven't.

So, am I foolish to think that when programs like Windows Media Player, and Real Player, have 'burn' options, that these would work?

You MUST rip these dvds to your HDD. You simply can not copy the files across as you see the pixleation which is the effect of the copy protection.

Check out the tools section for dvd rippers - dvd fab is one option but some may rip with dvddecrypter.
