  1. I wasn't sure about where to put this thread so I decided to put it here. Fell free to move it as you see fit.

I will assemble a budget Home Theater but I'm undecided between two different configurations that I'm thinking about.

    1) two 8 inch front speakers, center speaker, two 6 1/2 inch surround speakers and Pioneer VSX-822-K 5.1-Channel Receiver.

    2) two 6 1/2 inch front speakers, sub-woofer, center speaker, two 6 1/2 inch surround speakers and Pioneer VSX-822-K 5.1-Channel Receiver.

I'm pretty sure that's the receiver I want but I'm undecided about some speakers that I found browsing the net. The list of speakers is as follows:

    1) 6 1/2 inch speakers a) Monoprice MBS-650 b) Dayton Audio B652 c) Acoustic Audio GX-400

    2) 8 inch speakers a) Podium Pro E825 b) Podium Pro 800C c) GLI Pro XL-850 d) Acoustic Audio GX-450 e) Monoprice MBS-800

Please help me decide which configuration and speakers to get based in your experience.

Audio is very subjective. I've heard budget oriented speakers (ie: 3" or 4" driver) speakers that sound good. The best advice for speakers, is to find them locally and listen to them. And then decide based on what sounds good to you.

  3. Agreed, it's subjective and it would be best if you could listen to them before buying.

Nevertheless, any good receiver will allow you to adjust for separation and each speaker individually for size and volume. Which can work wonders even with unmatched speakers. Don't go too cheap on the subwoofer; the Polk 10" is just under $100 bucks, and I'd consider it the cheapest decent sub.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
