So, to clarify what I am trying to do let me explain what I am starting with....

I have a video of me and my wife jet skiing, however she is talking over a lot of it and I want to essentially get rid of all the chat and replace with the sections of just the waves and engine sound

I'm not bothered if its a super professional job, i.e. I just want to extract the engine sound from say frame x - frame y and then use that sound in frame a - b.

Does that sort of make sense?

I presume this is possible, but I don't really seem to be able to work out how to play around with audio in Virtual dub. I have worked out I can use a separate audio file, so presumably I could somehow create small sections of engine sounds/waves and then import them? But that said, I don't know how to create these small sections to export (I can see how to export, but it seems to export the whole thing), whenever I try to cut sections it never seems to work (for audio or video). Also when importing these back in, how can I set them to play from frame x, rather than from the start?

Apologies if that doesn't make sense, if you need me to clarify anything in order to assist, let me know!

If you select the part of the video that has the audio you need (using the slider and flag thingies), you can click File > Save wav.. and that section will be saved.

  3. And then you can go to work in an audio editor (one such as the free Audacity) replacing sections with other sections.

Are you sure your wife wants you to get rid of her mindless chatter.
