  1. Hi All,

Now that HDV and DV have almost disappeared, I thought I might try my luck at saving my Sony Z7HVRE for a while longer. Via the camera's HDMI output, I have hooked up the Z7 to an Atomos Ninja-2 field recorder.

On static shots the output looks fine on both the Z7 and the Ninja-2 screens, but when imported into FCP7 (I select 'yes' when asked if I want to change the sequence settings to the clip settings) any movement (pan or tilt, no matter the speed) gives the impression of jerkiness and juddering.

    Z7 settings:
    - Output HDV1080i
    - Rec type Interlace
    - Scan type 25
    - Shutter 1/50

    Ninja-2 settings:
    - 1080i50
    - Codec ProRes 422

    or

    Z7 settings:
    - Output HDV1080i
    - Rec type Progressive
    - Scan type 25

    Ninja-2 settings:
    - 1080p25
    - Codec ProRes 422

Panning and tilting on the Ninja screen is juddery - the same in FCP7.

On the Z7 (the little icon on the screen) indicates 1080i the entire time - even when switched to progressive25p in the menu, so I am of the opinion that the sole output from the Z7's HDMI is an interlaced signal.

If anyone has any ideas as to a work-around for this pair, then I would be most grateful to hear your views. I have a shoot on Wednesday and I may well take a Canon DSLR instead …

    Thank you for your time.

    George

might be a field order problem. switch top and bottom field first in the ninja and see if it helps.

  3. Thank you for your reply.

I've had a good look around the Ninja-2 and I cannot find an option to change the field order ...
