I'll assume these are NTSC tapes from N. America. You can't watch N. American closed captions from a VHS tape without both a N. American TV and a N. American VCR. PAL TVs don't include a N. American closed captions decoder and N. American TVs won't display a PAL60 signal correctly, plus a PAL VCR may not transmit the part of the signal containing closed captions. Even digitizing those tapes to see the captions would present difficulties outside N. America. You would need a N. American VCR and a capture device that captures closed captions.

Then you will need a closed caption decoder designed to decode and add closed captions from PAL VHS to the picture shown on your TV, something like this:http://www.linkelectronics.com/catalog.asp?form=Product_Info&ID=61

I appreciate the challenge in trying to get it to work BUT maybe it's time to invest in the Blu ray editions. I've wasted countless hours trying to make a decent digital copy of various VHS tapes for clients that are widely available as either DVD or Blu ray Good luck!
SONY 75" Full array 200Hz LED TV, Yamaha A1070 amp, Zidoo UHD3000, BeyonWiz PVR V2 (Enigma2 clone), Chromecast, Windows 11 Professional, QNAP NAS TS851

netmask50 - I cannot believe that people actually pay you to do that. I would not have expected that. If people are willing to pay you to do it then you are not charging enough. If you want to stop this kind of work, charge people more than the DVD or BluRay costs and say that you have to use special equipment on these old commercial VHS tapes (this should be completely true if you are having to defeat Macrovision) and it increases your costs and point out that it would be cheaper for them to just by the DVD or BD than to pay you to copy their tapes.
