I own a OMNI SLP3000 DVD player standalone. It is the Australian version of the SAMPO brand. It has Macro off. I am trying to copy a VCD to VHS with no success. I've conected the AV leads from the output on the DVD to in input on the VHS & then from the output on the VHS to the input on the TV. When I play the VCD the picture is perfect on the TV even when recording on the VHS. But when I play back the recording on the tape it rolls, black & white & the sound comes and goes. I've tried a freinds VHS in place of mine to see if it is the problem but the same thing happens. I didn't think Macro would be a problem with VCD copying to tape but I still checked the settings out to make sure it was set to the OFF setting which it was. Does anyone know of any possible cause of this problem. It has got me stumped. I've also tried a friends VIDEO COPY BOX it still didn't fix the problem & it works fine for her. I've tried several different VCD'S with no success.
Please help?

Sounds to me that your VCD is one standard and your VHS is another, but the television will display both.
For example, you can watch a NTSC DVD on the television, but your VHS recorder will only record PAL, so this will result in the picture being black and white and rolling.
Or other way around if your standard is NTSC, then your VHS only records NTSC not PAL -
I thought that the VCD could be NTSC and my VCR being a PAL only recorder could be the problem, but my friend has a very old VCR PAL only and it records the same VCD'S without a problem connected to her DVD using a VIDEO COPY BOX. I have tried her VCR as well as her Video Copy Box on my DVD & it still does not work. I'm hoping someone who owns the same DVD may have had similar problems & has been able to fix it. My DVD player is the Australian clone of the SampoDVE660 (aka Encore DV-450 & AdfreEy LD2060)

Your DVD player is just fine, most DVD players will play PAL and NTSC with no problems, however some will have NTSC in NTSC out, so if the television is also NTSC/PAL then you will see the movie OK.
Bust most VCR's have NTSC/PAL "playback" but only record "PAL" !, they cannot record NTSC at all.
Put the VCD in your computers ROM, load the dat file into Vdub and select File > File information, this will tell you its NTSC by the number of frames 29 V 25 .
You can convert the .dat file with TMPGEnc
