1.) I have an MP3-CD player. Would it be better to fast forward 30 minutes into an MP3 or should I dub my books on tape, onto tape and use a tape player.

I'm traveling and I want to know the best way, to reduce space and weight.

Also can tapes be earsed by those new high power x-ray machines they r using.? Will my cd-player be safe?

2.) Were can i find the Simillarion by J.R.R. Tolkien, it was a BBC radio play n i've seen parts on winmx but never all of it

  2. Why would you have to fast forward through the MP3? Why not just break it up into pieces? For example, cut them into 10 minute tracks so you can just jump through the "sections".

Your MP3 player and all CDs will be fine in XRay machines. As long as you don't have a boxcutter hidden in it.

As for the Similarian, go to a used book store and buy the tapes, and capture them to MP3.

  4. You can download audio books from www.audible.com. They have proprietary player software, but also have a burn to CD option that creates standard audio CDs. I wanted the audio in MP3 format, so I played it on my PC and captured it to a .wav file using TotalRecorder. From there I converted to MP3 and burned it to a CD.

They have The Silmarillion in their catalog, but it's in 3 parts at $15.95 each.

  7. What do you mean by "MP3 cutter"? If you're looking for MP3 ripping software or CD burning software, you can download the basic version of MusicMatch Jukebox from www.musicmatch.com. The basic version is free and supports both ripping and burning.

I have Lord of the Rings MP3's but they are 55 minutes long.

It would be so battery consuming to fast forward 45 minutes into one.

    I'd like to cut the mp3 into 5 10 minute MP3's.

remember that I have only a finite supply of batterys and for a week I won't be able to really purchase new ones.

I will also be running a digi-cam, further hurting my supply.

I do plan to buy the latest and finest in rechargeable batteries though.
