  2. Try going into the Environmental / VFAPI settings and increase the priority of the DirectShow filter, if that doesn't work, i suggest you get TMPGEnc 12a, it can handle AVI files much better.

    Mr Levy,

I'm having problems similar to many posts since I managed to get frameserving from VirtualDub into TMPGE 2 days ago. Mine is significant blockiness and sound-sync loss upon playing (SVCD).

All have been answered by increasing the priority of something in TMPGE. I'm experimenting with this as I write.

    My questions is this:

I have many years experience as a business system programmer but I'm a complete newbie plus a few months to video. I don't understand why a "priority" change impacts the result of processing a data-stream (AVI) mathematically to produce another data-stream (MPEG). It seems to me that it should only affect the processing time.

Can you point me to discussions of how/why this happens?

    Thanks!!

  4. Allan, the raising of priority will not have any effect on how the stream will be processed, it just enables TMPGEnc to access the stream more efficiently by giving it all the resources it needs, however, this does not always help, just in some cases.

In your case, if you can, please explain what it is you are trying to do exactly so it will be easier to provide you with a solution.

    Hi again,

Raising the priority and/or reburning solved all my current problems. Thanks for your concern!

What I'm asking is : Where can I find more info on background and algorithms -- the hows and whys of video processing? -- Do you or anybody know of any good books on the subject? (I fine on electronics etc.) Who knows, maybe others are interested too.

    Thanks for any hints!

    Allan
