Codes to unlock AWA DS-A331 Region Free

G'Day Group,

I have an AWA DS-A331 dvd player and would like to make it region free. Has anyone been able to do this yet? I contacted AWA and they were not able to help me.

There may not be an unlock code. Hollywood has gotten to almost all of the DVD player manufacturers and made them stop producing players that can be unlocked. For example, at this time it seems that every Samsung player currently sold in the world is locked and cannot be unlocked. The situation is getting grimmer by the day for the other manufacturers. In the recent past Philips just about didn't make a DVD player anywhere that couldn't be unlocked and we're getting reports from new owners about how some Philips models that could be unlocked in the past can't be unlocked any more.

I am mystified as to what exactly Hollywood thinks this is supposed to accomplish. Since people will now have players that can't be unlocked, the natural response will be piracy. People will turn to torrent sites and similar places to get ripped copies that have had region coding removed or they may even buy region free copies from Asian bootleggers. This decision by Hollywood will ultimately cost them money. I am also amazed that the big manufacturers have so easily caved in on this as there is no legal requirement to support this. Sorry for the bad news, but there probably is no way to unlock this player.

Here is the procedure to upgrade the dvd player to multi-region:

(1) Open tray with remote
(2) Enter 0,5,2,0 on the remote
(3) Press up, down, left then right
(4) Press 0
(5) Close tray

This works... start playing multi-region disks.

One possibility is that your model has hardware changes that make it different from jfox's model and break the hack. This happens more than you might think.

Another possibility is that the hack is missing some critical information and it doesn't work as written without it. For example, maybe after step 4 you have to press up again. This is unlikely, but it's not impossible. We have had people post a few hacks in the past and they did leave out a step and then someone later would come back and post the missing step. Most likely your problem is the first possibility above and if so, you'll have to wait for someone to come up with a new hack, if one is even possible.

Hi guys here's the hack you've been waiting for so patiently

USER MANUAL
MODEL: DS-A331
Region Code Setting
1. Press "open/close" button
2. Press "setup"
3. Move to performance page press "8" "7" "3" "7"
It should show the region code setting. Then choose the
region (0) by arrow key.

Worked like a charm the first time!!!
