I use DVD Decrypter rip dvd and AutoGK to convert it to Xvid 700 mb but i dont get the same quality of the original Dvd after converting to avi.file ?

My question is here which software is best to rip a dvd and then convert the same file to xvid uptill 700 to 750 mb with better picture quality and sound.

Kindly guide me out with tutorials.

    thanks.

How much worse it? Lots of pixels?

You will never get same quality but you should still get good quality. But if it's a longer movie(over 2 hours) you might have to consider making it a bit bigger.

Autogk is still very good for avi xvid conversion.

  3. I use xvid4psp (I have one media player which has a nice interface but is picky about what it plays).
It varies but I generally get a decent result with a bitrate of between 3200 and 3500 kbps.
File size varies of course but I am happy if they have a file size between 1400 and 1600 mb with AC3 sound.
Experiment with the bitrates and accept that larger files means more information, therefore, better quality.
Don't always opt for a fixed file size.

AutoGK is so easy you don't need a tutorial. The best thing you can do is to post the log for an encode that didn't turn out as well as you might have liked. Then we may be able to tell what went wrong or why it turned out as it did. Also, you're in a part of the world that the DVDs are often of such poor quality to begin with that nothing can ever make them look good, although I have no idea if that's the case with the movies you're having trouble with.

  7. Lots of people compromise by reducing the resolution. What are you comparing your conversions with?
Use mediainfo on one of the files someone else made and you may find they have a screen width of only 640 for example. The type of sound can influence the file size also. MP3 stereo will be much small than anything.

Correct. You don't get the same quality. It is impossible.

I've seen some of those xvid files you're talking about. They're not all that great. You cannot get original dvd quality in 750Mb. Case closed. You can get reasonable quality though.

Use avidemux. And 2 pass target file size if you must have that size. Go into filters and force frame rate to the original. Go into configure and max out all the quality settings in the first 2 tabs.

Actually I don't bother with bit rate or file size targets. I use quality based encoding, usually set on 3. It's pretty much the same quality as 2 pass. And a lot faster.

You can't really predict the file size in quality based but I don't care. Drive space is pretty cheap now. And those greasy web downloads are not exactly paradigms. Most of them are pitiful quality. Including some like the names you mentioned.

aXXo just downloads an already compressed xvid avi and reconverts it none of his releases where done from the orginal dvds

How can a recode yields better quality? Is it because aXXo lowered the resolution?

A recode from an already compressed lossy source doesn't yield better quality.

I've seen enough aXXo videos to confidently say that he does not deserve his apparent reputation as a master encoder. I have seen some truly excellent encodes. None were his.

If you want better quality use handbrake to encode the dvd to mkv or mp4 at 750mb using h.264.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
