  1. So I just picked up an Avermedia C874 off of craigslist. I dont have the original power adapter though I am able to get power out of a 6v AC adapter. Now this is my first concern. I know that the box states it takes DC power on the back but I couldnt get power to it for the life of me with even trying a 5v DC adapter with it. AC powers it and my computer recognizes it but I get strange light indications.

All three lights are solid and the recordings freeze up. Sometimes I even get a copyright error.
I've also had the lights flash continuously.

Can someone clear these things up for me? I ordered a replacement power adapter for it so that may be my source of error. Does this require an extremely precise voltage?

    Thanks for the help!

Usually external avermedia devices need 2 amps current and should be Vdc ... ac could very well cause damage to the device ... I know routers fry really quick if there meant to use dc and ac is supplied.

Copyright ... might it be the source your trying to capture ... if the source has none then try with the correct Vdc / amps and if it continues suspect its overheated and non-repairable
