    System:
    Motherboard: a7m266-d
    Processors: 2 athlon mp 1900+ (1.6ghz)
    HD: Wester digital 80gb
    Ram: pc2100 512mb ddr
    Videocard: GeForce 3 Ti200
    Soundcard: sblive 5.1 Gamer
    Capture card: Wintv PVR
    Mpeg2 decoder: real magic hollywood +
    Burner: 24x
    DVD: 16x

    This first pic is my system summary.

    This next pic is the settings used in tmpge. The vcd ntsc default was loaded and the motion search set to high quality slow. The clip ran through DVD2AVI and opend directly in tmpge.

    And this next one is how fast tmpge went with a 17min 5sec clip. I didnt let it finish all the way when I did the screen capture.

    And the final one is cce 2.5 crack at it. this one went through dvd2avi then frameserved with avisynth, below is the script used.

    loadplugin("d:\mpeg2dec.dll")
    v=mpeg2source("d:\st5\st5.d2v")
    a=wavsource("d:\st5\st5.wav")
    audiodub(a,v)
    bilinearresize(352,132)
    addborders(0,54,0,54)

    Here is its crack at it.

    Basicaly if you have the money (roughly $2600) this setup is pretty damn good.

    Hey, nice rig. Pretty much the same as what I am looking at for my next system. The only difference being that I will have SCSI, or maybe serialATA if it is out in time for my next purchase. I have had a minor setback though, my 19" monitor blew up the other day (literally blew up). Now I dont know whether to get a 21" Sony Triniton, or another 19" Mitsibushi or something. I would rather a 21" but the one I want costs like £500...

    Definatly this is the way to go. Id get the cheaer of the 2 monitors and throw something else in it. Like more ram or a bigger hard drive. I love this rig, I also have a xp 1900+ and Dual mp really goes beyond what It could do.

    A word of note when encoding with TMPGEnc on dual processors, the processors do not max out on a single encode so instead of batch encoding multiple files I ran 2 separate sessions of TMPGEnc (and batch if necessary) and about a 30% reduction in time over one session.

    If you go into options envirometal settings(I think) you can set it to use 2 processors for the encoding and will just about max them out.

    TMPGEnc is already smart enough to default to dual processors. My dual pIIIs never max out on a single encode that is why I go 2 sessions for reduced overall encode time to single session batch.

  9. So when you have a dual setup does one cpu handle the video while the other handles the filters? I heard that was another one of the advantages of having a dual cpu setup.

    Correct me if Im wrong, but I think that most any program will be faster and use both processors, if your system is Dual-Processor compatable (Windows 2000, XP). Mine at work has no programs what have "special" Dual-Processor settings or features, yet I look under "Task Manager" and sure enough, every program uses both processors!

    I would imagine that programs like TMPGEnc and CCE are no different.

    (Either way, it looks like the only thing stopping me is BILLS BILLS BILLS)!

    No, not any program is faster, only the ones written for dual processor. In fact most programs are NOT written for dual processor with the exception of business applications where they are often run on a dual proc. server. Programs not written for dual proc. don't run any faster than a single proc. I am not sure but it does not seem to discriminate what tasks are sent to what processors, just that tasks are sent to both instead of one. I am encoding at this very second on TMPGEnc on single P4 1.6 and dual P3 733's and the dual seems to be kicking the ass of the P4 by about 25% reduction in total encode time(Note: I am running 2 separate sessions for 2 halves of the movie on dual and single batch session for 2 halves on P4).

  12. This is my question though, since a dual cpu setup is so powerful, would that make a cheap capture card perform better as well? I know that after I build the system I will be financially tapped for a while and I won't be able to afford something like a Dazzle Hollywood bridge to do high quality digital caps. I plan to do AVI capture using V-Dub and a decent capture card(one that hopefully will allow me to cap in 720x480 resolution). Any suggestions would be appreciated as well as advice.
