I'm finding that most DVDs are not very protected anymore and in 95% of cases the old standby software DVD Shrink works fine. Occasionally DVD Fab is necessary but it's becoming almost a rarity. Anyone else notice this decline of protection on DVDs?

  2. Name some current titles which you think aren't protected anymore...

  3. The OP said "not very protected," which I take to mean "protection isn't hard to overcome."

    I agree.

He needs to alter his thread title then, "most DVDs not protected anymore".

Some examples would still be good...

What region are these DVDs supposed to be from?

  5. I have no proof but I think the studios shifted advanced copy-protection to Blu-Ray discs, if you look at the change logs for AnyDVD and DVDFab they are mostly for BD. DVDDecrypter can still rip 90% of the DVD's out there, I still use DVDShrink to reauthor.

Actually, that's a good point - If Sony spends $50,000,000 on "Anti Piracy" measures, they can legitimately claim "Piracy Cost Us $50,000,000"

There's been no change in this for years now. Basically if you avoid DVDs made by Disney and Sony and a few other smaller studios, DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink can handle them without issues. I've personally noticed no decrease in the number of studios using advanced copy protection methods for DVDs. Sony is still more paranoid than anybody in the industry, even slapping Cinavia on some of their DVD releases. Disney continues to use a home grown method of bad sector copy protection on DVDs, but they've yet to use Cinavia on BluRays. I don't agree with you because I feel that things are pretty much where they've always been for the last 4-5 years on DVD.

  9. I wrote 'mostly for BD', you failed to show that most of the change logs mention Blu-ray 3 to 1 over DVD. As jman98 mentioned if you stay away from Disney and Sony you should not have to update.
