  1. I just got Sony Vegas Pro but for some reason when I put in a video and tried to render the entire thing, where the video should have been it was just a black box.

can anyone help me on this?

  2. is there visible picture in the preview before exporting ?

what format did you export ?

what software are you using to watch? Try something else like VLC, MPCHC, SMPlayer - is it still black ?

  3. in the preview i can see the videos just fine, and they work right when working on the project. but they disappear in the preview when the video is rendering. it's also missing in the final project.

i imported the videos as .avi and exported it as .avi also.

I was using the default Windows Media Player (windows 7) to view the video

  4. Did you test any other players like VLC (if you used a codec that WMP doesn't have with the default install, you won't be able to play it - i.e. it might be ok, just a playback problem)

What kind of AVI? What video & audio codec? Use mediainfo if you don't know

Did you try exporting another format like AVC/MP4, wmv ? do problems still exist ?

  5. the video codec is Sony DV and the audio codec is PCM.

I'm nearly certain that WMP isn't the problem as it worked with all my other AVI videos.
that and the final outcome looks exact to the preview Sony shows while it's rendering.

thats the way it looks in the preview and in the video

problems still occur when exporting to other video types.

  6. What kind of videos were in the "boxes". ? ie. "episode 1" and "last episode" what videos did they reference , and what kind of videos were they (what compression) ?

How is this arranged in vegas? Do you have episode 1 and last episode on separate tracks ?

If you take a snapshot (export a still in vegas) , are the boxes still "black" ?

  7. both "episode 1" and "last episode" were .avi with the sound track muted. they both are on separate tracks.

before i start to render everything looks like this

that the way it should look in the final project. but for some reason the two videos go missing when i start to render everything

  8. I don't know

The only thing I can think of is maybe something got corrupted. You might try unistall/reinstalling vegas

  9. ok, thanks for the help

  10. You can also try asking at the vegas forum

GPU acceleration can cause glitches like this which become ok once it's disabled, but Vegas 8 didn't have it back then

Here's the link to the Vegas forum: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowTopics.asp?ForumID=4

This is the official Sony forum. You can also create a support ticket, but as soon as you mention "AVI" they'll say they don't support "3rd party" codecs. So don't mention that part.

You say two sound tracks are "muted"? Have you tried ungrouping and deleting the muted sound tracks?

Just out of curiosity, has this particular project ever worked? I mean, did it work with other videos? Or this is the first attempt?

Have you tried upgrading your ffdshow, or codec pack?

  12. I figured out the problem, it just didn't want to render the .avi videos, i used a converter to switch the files to a .wmv file and it's working now.
Thanks for all the help though, I really appreciate it.

But that doesn't address the core issue. Vegas CAN render to most any codec if that codec is installed properly.

  14. I don't know why it doesn't like avi, but being able to render videos is pretty much my only concern

Which files did you convert to WMV ? Did you export WMV directly? or did you convert the assets to WMV and relink all the files ? Or did you convert the exported AVI to WMV ?

So you converted the SOURCE .avi files to WMV, and used the WMV files in the project ?

What type of files were the source .avi files ? (use mediainfo if you don't know)

  18. yes, the source files were converted to WMV and those went in the project, i think the answer to your second question is above somewhere

  19. ok so both import and export .avi files were using DV ?

That is very weird result because DV is very stable in vegas (and all NLE's)

  20. I don't get it either, but switching the files i import to WMV seems to work
