  1. Have anyone on this forum tried this DVD-player. Is it good or not? Does it support SVCD. Have someone tried SVCD on this player.

  2. Yes, I have it. I does support SVCD, on original discs, CDR and CDRW's.. But even though I have not experienced it yet, I have heard that this player is a little picky about SVCD. Something about, if you encoded with a too high bitrate, the sound would stutter.. Or something.. I'm sure somebody else here, can give a little more precise explanation?

    Anyone?

I have the Pioneer DV-444, and it plays my SVCDs made with tmpgenc fine.
I have done them at 480x576 and 352x576 with no problems.
As long as you set the max or constant bitrate to no higher than 2496bps then there will be no stuttering.

    Hope this helps

The quality of the palyer is great - a noticeable improvement on my old Pioneer 515. As far as I'm aware , the only difference between the 444 and the 343 is the design, and that the 444 plays MP3 CDs.
The only problem I've had with it is that it seems to start to display problems with my VCDs (standard) that were over 45 mins in length. I thought it was a problem with the type of CDR, but when I put chapter breaks in they work fine.
Must be my encoded file, as it happened on the 444 in the shop, and on my friends Philips. Not on my old Pioneer though!
Must be the software I'm using I guess....
I'll be experimenting over the next week or so!
