  1. Hi all, first post here

I used SubRip to rip the subtitle on a DVD of mine, i`ve done this process several times before with good result but on this DVD i get small gaps in the subtitle as you can see in the picture..i`ve tried to re-rip the subtitle a couple of times but without result.

Anyone know why these gaps occur and is there a way to get rid of them?

Try instead subextractor or subtitle edit to convert/ocr it to srt.

Ok, but will these programs rip the subtitle from the DVD or do i need to rip it first with SubRip and then convert it with subextractor/subtitle edit?

Convert directly from the dvd folder. I would try subextractor first.

I don't remember what it's called officially because it's been a long time since I've needed to do OCR on subtitles, but most subtitle programs that can do OCR have a setting where you can change the amount of white space between letters on the OCR. If you make this distance smaller, that will often fix this problem. You will have to try different values to see what works. Start with a very small change because if you make it too big, what happens is that instead of getting something like this:

    how are you

you will get something like this:
    howareyou

  6. If you saved the matrix after using SubRip earlier, any more OCRs of that same DVD should go very quickly. Open the Character Matrix File and open the DVD. To get rid of the spaces between letters go Options->Advanced OCR Setup->Space Width Setup, and change the default 7. I forget if it's supposed to be raised or lowered but it shouldn't be hard to figure out.

I did try your solution and it worked perfectly, thank you so much
First, i lowered the value to 6 but then it only looked worse so i raised to 8 and that did it. Problem solved.
