Muliple Questions...
Scenerio:
1. I have 1:40 hrs of Super 8mm tape that was transferred from Super 8mm to SVHS. It was then dubbed to VHS. That is the format I have it in. I have split it into about 100 clips of .avi type 1 by transferring it from a Hollywood Bridge and then thru Firewire to PC. There is no sound, so I have saved video only, when saving. This equals to about 22 gig of files. I have then been able to create larger chunks of avi files in MSP 6.5 by combining the smaller ones in the order I want. I have then tried to open these avi files in DVD Complete by Dazzle (which is a incredible program judging by the all the others I have attempted to learn) It chokes on the avi files while converting to mpeg2 and gives a error number that isn't defined on Dazzle's Site. I then open the file in Ulead Videostudio 6 and then save as a mpeg2 file with about 5000 VBR. I can then use these files in DVD Complete only after it "fixes" the files.
Questions:
1. How anyone else seen the problem of using avi files in DVD Complete? Is it the fact of me saving it as video only?
2. What is the way users recommend storing the files ? Is it in avi format or mpeg2 format? Obviously, when compressed to mpeg2 format, I could store it easily. Does that limit me to being able to edit the files later in a video editor? I have 22 gigs of avi files that I want to be able to manipulate at some other time in a video editor and retain the highest original quality as the source.
3. What settings do you recommend using for a Super 8mm ? What is a good starting point as far as CBR or VBR settings, so I am not saving at a higher bitrate then the incoming quality?
4. Do you think it matters how I got these files? Does Super 8mm to SVHS have any noticible difference as opposed to SVHS to VHS? How about SVHS to DVD? My friend is getting his original master SVHS tape converted to DVD but the guy says he can get 4 hrs on DVD. Well, since I have a burner, I know he's probably going to convert to mpeg2. Is that going to be my best source? When converting from a .vob file to mpeg2 or avi, that's only going to give me the quality of the encoding process, Right? Better then my SVHS to VHS to Digital, as opposed to SVHS to being encoded about maybe 5000 VBR on DVD?
Sorry for the rambling, but just curious how other users store their DV for use later in editing but at the same time freeing up their DV Tapes for new footage. And of course the Super 8mm analog question.
Thanks,

Probally. It is probally adding a track of silence to them. Why isn't there sound??
2.) WHa do you plan to do? If you are gonna watch them now, MPEG storage.
If you are gonna burn to DVD, use DIVX at a High High Bitrate.
3.) Always use VBR if possible, and the more passes the better.
4.) DOesn't make sense.
U need to word ur questions better. I can't understand.
I store my DV on DV tape until I'm ready to edit.
Storing on DV tape i think is best, cause then u can buy a DVD burner
