    Hi friends,

I am a newbie here. I needed help in connecting my laptop's external 2.0 speakers to my 32 inch LCD. My tv has an a/v out slot where I have connected the external speakers to it. I am able to hear the sound through the speakers as well as from the TV. Even when the TV volume is mute,I can hear the sound through the speakers, if I increase the volume of the TV to max, even then the volume from the speakers is the same. I want a way by which I get audio only through the speakers when its connected. If i increase the TV volume the speakers volume too should increase/decrease.

I had read some where TV's have options of disabling internal speakers but my TV doesn't have such an option. Attached is the list of available options my TV has, please suggest if there can be any way I can get this to work.

I think he's talking about using the kind of external laptop speakers that plug into the laptop's headphone connection with the TV's headphone connection.

Can't suggest, because no "list" is attached. Do you mean the photo of the outputs and plugins on back of your TV? That's not a list of options. The "options" that contol the way your TV works are in your setup menus, not on the back of your TV.

I believe the O.P. wants to know how to mute TV speakers when external speakers are connected.

  6. I think I understand but correct me if I'm wrong, you want to adjust the volume of the external speakers. If so you can't via the remote unless the line level has variable levels that correspond with the internal speakers, few TV's have variable output and it should say in the manual. I suggest using the headphone jack(3.5mm), it's variable and turns off the internal speakers.

I have to connect the external 2.0 speakers to the a/v out on my TV. When I connect it, I am able to hear the sound from the TV as well as the speakers. I want a way by which the sound comes only through the speakers and not the TV. Cause even when the volume of speakers is at the max, its not loud enough.

    I hope its clear now?

My tv is a ONIDA 32 Inch Full HD. Dont rmbr the exact model name. It doesnt have any sound settings except for the few preset modes FLAT,NORMAL,MOVIE etc. Where u can just change the bass/trebble and equaliser settings. Not of much use. Check the pic.

If your TV hasn't got a headphone jack, you're basically stuck, I'm afraid. The only variable output other than for headphones may be some sort of pre-amp out, which your set doesn't seem to have.

A headphone jack may be situated in a more convenient place than on the backpanel you sent us the pricture from. No offence meant, but have you looked thoroughly for it, maybe even in the users manual?

Dont rmbr the exact model name.
The model name should be on the back panel, too. Specs for the Onida 32" LEO32NMSF100L e.g. say "headphone - yes".

It doesnt have a headphone jack. I had connected the speakers to the a/v out, as can be seen in the pic. I am not sure if both are the same. Though I am able to connect the speakers using this a/v out port. Also i found the model name, its ONIDA LCO32FDG.

  10. Almost always, when you use Audio Line Out, the TV volume control is non-functional for the external speakers. Also, volume will be low as it is assumed you are going thru an amplifier.

Using BOTH the TV speakers AND the external speakers together might be a solution.

Your statement in post #7 about the speakers not being loud enough is unclear and nearly meaningless. There are TWO SETS of speakers, those in the TV and the external set. ONE OF THEM is apparently not loud enough. Which one?

As I understand it, he's got a line level audio out and is running that into external laptop speakers and is saying they aren't loud enough. Presumably they aren't amplified speakers or if they are, not amplified enough. If the TV doesn't have a headphone socket the only way he's going to achieve what he wants is by opening it up and fitting one.

But them he'll complain that the sound is distorted as the levels and impedances will be wrong......

I understood the OP wants to connect external speakers because the internal speakers are not loud enough.

please suggest if there can be any way I can get this to work
As your TV just doesn't have any audio outputs with adjustable volume, you'll have to adjust your external speakers' volume externally. I can't think of any other way that doesn't involve soldering. Even the simplest of active speakers should have local volume control.

Yeah the external speakers does have volume control, but even on max volume its not that loud especially when I am watching movies on the external hard drive connectes to the TV. For normal TV viewing its fine, I have a STB connected so no issues with sound at that time.

From what I can understand is there is no way out here. Thanks for your help guys.

Can anyone suggest me a good audio editor by which I can extract the audio from the movies, increase the volume and then merge it back using mkv merge or any such software.

Or just buy speakers with a more powerful built in amplifier......

Yeah... I think I'll have to do that only.

  16. Not everybody is a putterer, but what I would do in your situation, is open up the TV, turn on the TV and test if speaker is hot (put an analogue voltmeter on each speaker lead to an earth ground and hope there is no more than a few volts) and wire in a jack. If the speaker is hot, I would use 2 high voltage capacitors (one in each speaker lead) to isolate the high voltage from your jack. I've done this kind of thing many times.

You could always just use your TV as a monitor for your laptop if the TV has an HDMI in and the laptop has an HDMI out. Connect the HD to the laptop and watch movies that way leaving your speakers connected to the laptop and not the TV.

    Just an idea anyways.....

The only other way would be to wire your speakers in to the TV itself which would entail opening it up like was suggested by jimdagys ..... it may be more work than you're looking to do.
