  1. I have installed the Bigasoft Total Video Converter and I'm trying to convert a mkv file with DTS audio to a mkv file with AC3 audio but the convertion also affects the quality of the video. What can I do?

  2. I have a feeling not many members here know anything about that software. But maybe someone will prove me wrong. Is there no way with that software to simply copy the video stream and re-encode the audio?

OTOH, RipBot is well-regarded here and can easily do the job. Select the input, let RipBot analyse and demux the file. Set container to MKV, video to copy stream, and audio to AC3, 5.1 at 448 or 640 kbs. Guides are available.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Popcorn MKV AudioConverter can convert MKV DTS to MKV AC3. I think eac3to can also do the conversion but you may have to demux the audio file first.

  5. Never tried Popcorn MKV Converter.
Have used MKV2AC3 in conjunction with eac3to. It works for me.

  6. You can use MP42MKVac3. It can be operated very easily.

  7. There are many tools that let you just copy the video while encoding the audio. Another one is AviDemux.

malkekoen - Don't hijack threads. The original thread was not Mac specific. Your question is. ANYTHING that is Mac specific needs to go in our Mac forum or you likely won't get help. Next time just make a new thread in the Mac forum for a question like this. And don't dig up old threads to post to them unless what you have to say is absolutely critical information that nobody has stated previously. Asking a question does not fit this idea of being "absolutely critical information". Generally speaking just leave old threads alone and open a new one around here if you need to know something.

    Hi
With Windows and Linux versions of VLC it's simple to set up new profiles in "Convert/Save" wizard.

    Encapsulation - MKV
Video codec - Keep original video track
    Audio codec - A52/AC3

This probably applies to the Mac version of VLC too.

Simplet method if you do not want to touch video at all is use MKVEXTRACTGUI2 to extract dts audio file
Convert it to mp3 or ac3 using any tool for example freemakevideo maker

remux the audio with again using mkvmerge GUI
